Jatinder Thakur

Jatinder Thakur comes from Mandi a small town in the northern Indian Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh. He received his first musical education from his father, the music professor Shyam Lal Thakur. In 1978 he moved to Europe. The highlight of his „classic“ training was in 1984 , when Ustad Alla Rakha –  the legendary tabla virtuoso – accepted him as his master student. Since 1985 Jatinder taught at the Ali Akbar College of Music, an institute of the Music Academy for classical Indian music in Basel. Many eminent Indian musicians have been accompanied on their concert tours through Europe by Jatinder Thakur, including the legendary „Grand Dame“ of song. But he became known in Europe  with musicians from other musical areas, especially with the German harpist Rüdiger Oppermann.
